Tailgate lights

As I work quite a lot at night & working from the back of the estate car it wasn’t easy to read the paperwork, so I installed a couple of lights into the tailgate.

Obviously you have to remove the complete tailgate cover because you need to run the live wire through from the interior light over the rear seat, feeding it above the headlining is easy, then you have to feed it through the rubber sleeve that goes body to tailgate, then down beside the glass in the tailgate, this takes a bit of jiggling, then across to near the wiper assembly. I then refitted the tailgate inner cover and fitted the lamps themselves into the ‘handles’ in the tailgate cover.

I am sure they were from a Ford but cannot remember what ,I think a Sierra. I put a switch on the offside but could/would have used a ‘tilt’ switch, which I couldn’t find at the time, then the earth to the wiper motor switch. And all done!
