Front Speaker Upgrade

I decided I wanted a bit more poke from the standard front speakers in the Scorpio, so I decided that some sort of larger speaker was needed. My first idea was to use 10” Pioneer TS-A2510.

I went ahead with this and bought some already modified door panels from an ex ICE demo car, these proved to be too big and in the way for driving, I done away with these and went for Vibe SR69 6 X 9's.

I started by removing the door cards and old speakers, I then had to make a template to mount the speakers onto, I then cut the door and card where the speaker would sit, This was then all fitted back onto the door and checked for any clearance problems, Dowel was then used to space from the lower rear to get the spacer to sit at the desired angle.

Fibre glass was then applied to the door card and the spacer refitted while this went off.

When hard this was trimmed to the required shape and material stretched over the top from the spacer to the rear, It was then coated in resin and once hard all trimmed.

It was then coated on the inside with resin and covered both inside and out with two layers of fibre glass, once hard again trimmed and sanded, Next on with the body filler, This was then all sanded smooth with various grades of sandpaper.

The newly sanded pod was then test fitted with the cut door pocket to make sure all fitted alright.

This was then finished off by spraying it gloss black and fitting it all back together with the speaker and grille, They have since been re-sprayed the same colour as the car.

Here is the amp that drives them.
